Whoever Seeks Blessings in Trees, Stones and Similar Things:

Aboo Waaqid Al-Laythee (radiyallaahu `anhu) said: “We went out with the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) to Hunayn and we had just recently left disbelief (Kufr). The polytheists (mushrikoon) had a tree which they used to frequent and hang their weapons upon (to acquire blessings), and it was called Dhaat Anwaat. So we passed by a tree and said:
“O Messenger of Allaah! Make a Dhaat Anwaat for us just like they have one.” The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam) replied:
Allaahu Akbar (Allaah is Most Great)! Verily it is the ways (of earlier nations)! By Him in Whose Hand is my soul! You have said just as the Children of Israa’eel said to Moosaa (`alaihis-salaam): “Make for us a deity just like they have. He (Moosaa) said: “Verily you are a people who are being ignorant.””* You will certainly follow the ways of those who were before you.”
