Want Allah to Forgive You? Forgive Others
As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), By Sheikh Salman al-Oudah If we want Allah to forgive us, we should be forgiving of others and willing to overlook their wrongs. This is part of what it means to be good to others. Allah describes his believing servants as "those who restrain their anger and are pardoning towards people." He then says: "Indeed, Allah loves those who do good." [Noble Quran 3:134] Indeed, Allah says: "And let not those of you who possess wealth and abundance swear against giving to the near of kin and the poor and those who have had to emigrate for Allah's sake. They should forgive and forebear. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." [Noble Quran 24:22] Righteous deeds of all kinds bring us closer to Allah, but especially kindness to others. We should show kindness to all creatures as well as to human beings, whether this kindness comes in the form of our personal behavior, our sharing of our wealth, giving assistance with our abilities and our influence, or praying to Allah on their behalf. We need to especially consider the disenfranchised, the widows and orphans, and the poor. The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: There was a merchant who used to extend credit to people. If he found one of his customers to be in straightened means, he would say to his assistants: "Forgive them their debt, perhaps Allah will forgive us." Allah did forgive him. [Sahih Al-Bukhari (2078) and Sahih Muslim (1562)] Pardon, tolerance, and magnanimity should exemplify the way we treat one another. We should be willing to overlook the faults of others. We should even be willing at times to waive some of our rights. We should not always demand everything that is due to us. All relationships are a matter of give and take. This applies to everyone we have dealings with. It is the way things should be between the husband and wife, between parents and children, between teachers and students, and between governors and the governed. In each of these relationships, there are clearly defined rights and duties, and we should do our best to fulfill them. However, in every relationship, people fall short at times. Forgiveness, forbearance, and pardon bring harmony and love into our relationships. Imagine a marriage based solely on accounting for rights and obligations. Would there be any love or mercy in such a marriage, any room for tenderness and affection? Tolerance and magnanimity, stabilize those relationships and bolster the esteem and human worth that people have for one another. By Allah's grace, these qualities make our dealings more successful, and certainly make our dealings more pleasing to Allah. |

Why Do We Delay Our Repentance?
As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), Repentance is ultimately the goal that we all seek. All sane people are conscious of their numerous sins, and those who believe in Allah and His Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him) recognize that they will be held accountable for their sins, and therefore desire to be free of the evil consequences of their misdeeds. Islam offers man the ideal way by which he may be released from the burden of his sins. The word Tawbah (repentance) in Arabic literally means 'to return'. In an Islamic context, it refers to the act of leaving what Allah has prohibited and returning to what He, Almighty, has commanded. The subject of repentance is one that concerns all people who believe in Allah, and is vital for the Muslims to understand because our salvation in the Hereafter depends on our repentance to Allah, as Allah commands (what means): "...And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, that you might succeed." Allah also Says (what means): "...Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." [Noble Quran 2:222] One may have a real intention to repent, but there may be some obstacles to the path of repentance. If this is the case, then he needs to act without hesitation and remove those obstacles to clear the way to a happy soul. The postponement of repentance may be the result of either a deliberate desire to prolong the illicit pleasure derived from the sin, or doubt on the part of an ignorant sinner whether or not Allah would accept his repentance. However, we have to be certain that Allah will guide us to success and safeguard us against our malice. We also must be confident that Allah forgives our sins and that He, and only He, can judge us. It is only His Judgment that is worthy of our worry and anxiety. So we should fear Him only because sincere repentance removes all sins and disobedience. The door of repentance is always open, until... The door to repentance is always open and will not be closed in the face of any repentant person, regardless of his sins. Expect this gate to have two locks: death and the approach of the Day of Judgment. The first was mentioned in the Hadith: "Allah accepts a slave's repentance unless his death approaches." [At-Tirmidthi] The other was mentioned in the Hadith: "Whosoever turns to Allah in repentance before the sun rises in the West, Allah will forgive him." [Ahmad] Allah Says in the Quran what means: "But repentance is not [accepted] of those who [continue to] do evil deeds up until, when death comes to one of them, he says: 'Indeed, I have repented now,' or of those who die while they are disbelievers..." [Noble Quran 4:18] O heedless soul! Hasten to repent before the knock of death sounds and the time of repentance runs out. Do not get caught dying in a state of disobedience to your Most Merciful Lord. Satan gives you long hope and empty promises; he delays your repentance until your heart becomes as callous as a rock by being adamant in sin and disobedience, and you would therefore meet your Lord in a wretched state. If the door of repentance is closed to you, it will never open to you again. What keeps us from repenting? 1. Taking sins lightly: The problem with many of us today is that we do not fear Allah, which means that we do not think seriously about disobeying Him and therefore fall into sin, without giving any real thought to it. Hence, we should think about the statement which Ibn Mas'ud may Allah be pleased with him made: "A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which he is afraid may collapse on him, whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose which he just drives away like this (and he waved his hand across his face to illustrate this)." [Al-Bukhari] The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take caution against minor sins, because such sins are like a group of people who temporarily settled in the middle of a valley. Then, they decided to make a fire, so each one of them brought a stick until they were able to make it, so they baked their bread. Thus, minor sins (when they accumulate) may destroy the one who commits them." [Ahmad] 2. "What is the point? I will only end up doing it again" Such an approach is the result of a misunderstanding. Indeed, one of the conditions of repentance is having a real intention not to return to the same sin. This, however, does not mean that Satan will never tempt you to commit the same sin again. Thus, if you have failed yourself, and you returned to the same sin, it does not mean that your first repentance was a lie. You should hasten to make additional repentance, with a real intention not to return to this sin, keeping in mind that Allah's mercy extends over everything. 3. "Allah is forgiving, so let me sin" When reminded of repentance and the hideousness of disobedience, some people would respond that Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. An atheist once said in sarcasm: "You should commit as many sins as you can because you are heading towards the Lord who is Most-Generous." There is no doubt that such a view is complete ignorance of the religion of Allah, because Allah's mercy is close to the righteous and not to the wrongdoers. 4. "I am destined to be a sinner" Some people may choose to blame Al-Qadr (fate) for their sins. For example, if you ask any of them, "Why do you not perform the Prayers? Why do you not fast? Why do you drink or smoke? Why do you not repent from your disobedience?" They would respond by saying: "This is Allah's Qadr" or: "I am doomed to do this." This is definitely a grave misconception and an evasion of the truth. Believing in Al-Qadr does not mean that one is destined to commit sins. It is true that Allah has written all human beings' deeds, good or bad, and only He knows the unseen, but the believer is not forced to perform a good deed, nor is he forced to commit any disobedience. Instead, he has been granted the ability to reflect, reason and then make a decision freely. Al-Qadr is only responsible for the calamities and blessings that an individual may confront because he can do nothing about them. For example, if a couple were to marry and have three children, then this is their Qadr. It is impermissible to fault Al-Qadr for our sins and disobedience because doing so is akin to being in confrontation and showing dissatisfaction with Allah. Repentance wipes out all sins, major and minor: Being confused, some people may think that repentance is only required for major sins. It should be noted that repentance from all sins is obligatory. Even the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) who was sinless, asked Allah to forgive him on a daily basis. The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: "O people! Make repentance to Allah. I swear by Allah that I make repentance to Him more than seventy times every day." [Al-Bukhari] Therefore, we all need to fear Allah, ask His forgiveness and be aware that there is no sin that is minor with persistence, and no major sin with seeking Allah's forgiveness (i.e. if the minor sin is repeated many times it becomes a major one.) Thus, sincere repentance wipes out all committed sins. Never despair! Someone might say: "I want to repent but my sins are too many." But Allah Says what means: "Say: 'O my slaves who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." [Noble Quran 39:53] Therefore, we should never lose hope or stop asking for Allah's forgiveness. Its importance is shown to us in the Hadith in which the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Turn to Allah in repentance and seek His forgiveness, for I make repentance to Him a hundred times every day." [Muslim] Repentance is such a great act of worship that doing it can erase all our sins altogether, as the Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One who repents from sin is like one without sin." Keeping Sins A Secret
As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), Compiled by Shawana A Aziz From among the teachings of Allah's Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him) is to keep sins a secret matter. If someone commits a sinful act which is against the Commandments of Allah, or is against the moral character, or is such an act that may cause harm to one's honor, then he should keep it a secret and seek forgiveness from Allah in the darkness of night. The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My entire nation is safe, except al-Mujahirin (those who boast of their sins). Among the Mujaharah is that a man commits an (evil) act, and wakes up in the morning while Allah has kept his (sin) a secret, he says: "O Fulan! Last night I did this and that." He goes to sleep while Allah has kept his (sin) a secret but he wakes up in the morning and uncovers what Allah has kept a secret!" [Sahih al-Bukhari] Zayd ibn Aslam narrated, 'At the time of the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him), a man admitted that he had committed fornication, so the Messenger of Allah asked for a whip. He was brought a broken whip, so he said: "Better than this." Then he was brought a new whip..., he then said: "Lesser than this.' So, he was brought a whip that was used and had thus become soft, and the Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be whipped with it (a hundred times). He then said: "O People! It is time for you to refrain from transgressing Allah's limits. He who commits some of these filthy acts (such as fornication), let him hide under Allah's cover, for whoever admits what he has committed, we will establish Allah's Book as regards him (by applying the warranted punishment for this sin)." [Musnad Ahmad] Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud related, 'A man came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I have mingled with a woman in the far side of al-Medina, and I fulfilled my desire short of actually having sexual intercourse with her. So, here am I, judge me according to what you decide.' Umar Ibn al-Khattab then said: 'Allah had kept your secret, why did not you keep your secret?' [Sharh Muslim] Similarly, if one becomes aware of somebody else's sin, he should keep it a secret. Allah's Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He, who relieves a hardship of this Dunya (word) for a believer, Allah will relieve (from him) a hardship of the Day of Resurrection; he who makes easy an indebted person, Allah will make it easy for him in the Dunya and the Hereafter; he who covers a Muslim (meaning his mistakes and shortcomings), Allah will cover him in the Dunya and the Hereafter..." [Muslim] Abdullah Ibn Umar related, "The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) once rose above the podium and then said with a loud voice, "O those who have embraced Islam only with their tongue, while Iman has not yet entered their hearts, neither harm Muslims, nor mock them, nor try to expose their mistakes, for he who follows (searches for) the errors of his brother, Allah will follow his errors, and he whom Allah follows his errors, He will expose him even if he was in the middle of his home." [Sahih al-Jami] Imam an-Nawawi writes, 'This Hadith indicates that following and then exposing people's mistakes only occurs by the hypocrites and those whose Iman is so weak, that it did not yet fill their hearts..." Exposing sins lead to humiliation and embarrassment, which ceases the possibility that the sinner might someday regret his mistake, seek forgiveness from Allah and purify his soul from sins because one of the things that prevent one from committing sins is the fear of humiliation. However, if the sinner knows that the people are already aware of his sins, then he does not experience the shame and distraction which he used to feel before and this might encourage him to commit sins openly! Secondly, when sins are repeatedly mentioned in gatherings, etc. the fear of committing sins vanishes from the people's hearts. First the sin will become easy on people's tongue and gradually he, who does not feel any shame in mentioning the sin, will not find it difficult to even commit the sin. This is how, sins spread in the society! So, if someone becomes aware of his brother's sins and realizes that nobody except him has seen him committing the sin, then he should keep the sin a secret. He should not encourage people towards sins by exposing his faults. Allah, the Exalted, has not only condemned committing sins in the Quran but He has also condemned those people who mention sins in public. He said: "Verily, those who like that Fahishah should be circulated among those who believe, they will have a painful torment." [Noble Quran 24:19] Meaning, those who like to see evil talk about them (the believers) appear. [Tafsir Ibn Kathir] Allah says: "Allah does not like that evil should be uttered in public except by him who has been wronged." [Noble Quran 4:148] Ibn Abbas commented on this verse, "Allah does not like that anyone should invoke Him against anyone else, unless one was wronged. In this case, Allah allows one to invoke Him against whoever wronged him...Yet, it is better for one if he observes patience." [Tafsir Ibn Kathir] Today sins have become widespread in the society because we have forgotten the teachings of Allah's Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him), who discouraged people from revealing one's mistakes and sins as well as others. As a result, people have lost the fear of committing not only minor sins but even major sins - Moreover, we find people proudly attributing sins to themselves!! Today, there are also many novel channels through which sins are propagated in the society; like such book, magazines and television programs that mention the crimes of others, illicit acts, and immorality under the name of creating awareness among the people. These programs which are meant to help the people against the crimes are in reality, helping the crime to spread fast in the society! Crimes, which were previously unknown to people have become common offense! It is therefore necessary for the Muslims to avoid all such avenues which may lead to the destruction of our Muslim Ummah. |

Six Etiquettes of Learning
As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), From Imam ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah There are six stages to knowledge: 1. Asking questions in a good manner. 2. Remaining quiet and listening attentively. 3. Understanding well. 4. Memorizing. 5. Teaching. 6. Acting upon the knowledge and keeping to its limits. Fruits of Humility One of the Salaf (Pious Predecessors) said: "Indeed a servant commits a sin by which he enters Paradise; and another does a good deed by which he enters the Fire." It was asked: How is that? So he replied: "The one who committed the sin, constantly thinks about it; which causes him to fear it, regret it, weep over it and feel ashamed in front of his Lord - the Most High - due to it. He stands before Allah, broken-hearted and with his head lowered in humility. So this sin is more beneficial to him than doing many acts of obedience, since it caused him to have humility and humbleness - which leads to the servant's happiness and success - to the extent that this sin becomes the cause for him entering Paradise. As for the doer of good, then he does not consider this good a favor from his Lord Upon him. Rather, he becomes arrogant and amazed with himself, saying: I have achieved such and such, and such and such. So this further increases him in self adulation, pride and arrogance - such that this becomes the cause for his destruction." Purifying the Heart "There is no doubt that the heart becomes covered with rust, just as metal dishes - silver, and their like - become rusty. So the rust of the heart is polished with Dthikr (remembrance of Allah), for Dthikr polishes the heart until it becomes like a shiny mirror. However, when Dthikr is abandoned, the rust returns; and when it commences then the heart again begins to be cleansed. Thus the heart becoming rusty is due to two matters: sins and Ghaflah (neglecting remembrance of Allah). Likewise, it is cleansed and polished by two things: Istighfar (seeking Allah's forgiveness) and Dthikr." Jihad Against the Self "Jihad" (striving) against the soul has four stages: 1. To strive in learning guidance and the religion of truth, without which there will be no success. Indeed, there can be no true happiness, nor any delight in this world and in the Hereafter, except through it. 2. Striving to act upon what has been learnt, since knowledge without action will not benefit, rather it will cause harm. 3. Striving to invite others towards it and to teach those who do not know, otherwise he may be considered from those who hide what Allah has revealed of guidance and clear explanation. Such knowledge will neither benefit, nor save a person from the punishment of Allah. 4. Striving to be patient and persevering against those who oppose this Dawah (call) to Allah and those who seek to cause harm - patiently bearing all these hardships for the sake of Allah. When these four stages are completed then such a person is considered to be amongst the pious. The Salaf were agreed that a scholar does not deserve the title of pious until he recognizes and knows the truth, acts upon it, and teaches it to others. So whosoever has knowledge, acts upon it, and teaches this knowledge to others, is considered from the pious. Trials of the Heart Ibn al-Qayyim said, whilst commenting upon the following Hadith: "Trials and tribulations will be presented to hearts, as a reed mat is interwoven stick by stick. Any heart which absorbs these trials will have a black mark put in it. However, any heart that rejects them will have a white mark put in it. The result is that hearts will be of two kinds: one white like a white stone, which will not be harmed by trials as long as the heavens and earth endure; and the other dark and rusty, like an over-turned vessel; not able to recognize the good, nor reject evil, but rather being absorbed with its desires." "The Fitnah (trials) which are presented to the hearts - and which are the cause of its weakness - are: The trials relating to Shahwah (false desire) and The trials relating to Shubhah (doubt) .... So the first causes intentions and desires to be corrupted, whilst the second causes knowledge and beliefs to be corrupted." Speaking about such trials, he said: "Hearts - when exposed to such Fitan (trials) - are of two types: The first type: a heart, which, when exposed to such trials, absorbs it like a sponge that soaks-up water, leaving in it a black stain. Such a heart continues to soak-up the various trials that are presented to it, until it becomes dark and corrupted - which is what is meant by "an over-turned vessel."So when this occurs, two dangerous and deadly diseases take hold of it and plunge it into destruction: (i) Confusing good with evil, so it neither recognizes the good, nor rejects the evil. This disease may take hold of it to such an extent that it believes good to be evil; and evil to be good, Sunnah to be Bid'ah (innovation); and innovations to be the Sunnah. And the truth to be falsehood: and falsehood the truth. (ii) Judging by its whims and desires, over and against what Allah's Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him) came with being enslaved by its whims and desires and being led by them also. The second type: a white heart in which the light of remain is bright and its radiance is illuminating. So when trials are presented to such a heart, it rejects and turns away from them. This further increases its light and illumination and its strength." Four Principles of Worship (The Ayah): "You alone do we worship." [Noble Quran 1:5] is built upon four principles: Ascertaining what Allah and His Messenger love and are pleased with, from (i) the sayings of the heart and (ii) of the tongue; and (iii) the actions of the heart and (iv) of the limbs. So al-'Ubudiyyah (servitude and slavery to Allah) is a comprehensive term for all these four Stages. The one who actualizes them has indeed actualized: "You alone do we worship." (i) The saying of the heart: It is I'tiqad (belief) in what Allah - the Most Perfect - informed about His Self; concerning His Names, His Attributes, His Actions, His Angels, and all that He sent upon the tongue of His Messenger (Peace and blessings be upon him). (ii) The saying of the tongue: It is to inform and convey (what Allah has revealed), to call to it, defend it, to explain the false innovations which oppose it, to establish its remembrance and to convey what it orders. (iii) The action of the heart: Such as love for Him, reliance upon Him, repenting to Him, having fear and hope in Him, making the Deen purely and sincerely for Him, having patience in what He orders and prohibits, having patience with what He decrees and being pleased with it, having allegiance and enmity for His sake, humbling oneself in front of Him and having humility in front of Him, becoming tranquil with Him and other than this from the actions of the heart which are actually connected to the action of the limbs ... and actions of the limbs without the action of the heart is of little benefit if any benefit at all. (iv) The action of the limbs: Such as Prayer and Jihad, attending the congregation and being with it, aiding those who are unable and displaying goodness and kindness to the creation, and other than this. |

On burning of Quran
As Salamo Alaikum May this reach you in the best of health and strongest of Imaan. |
Who is burning the Quran? A Christian priest? Ask a question, if I write the name of Jesus Christ on a piece of paper and give it to him to burn it, will he burn it? If I write the name of Moses on a piece of paper and give it to a Jew, will he burn it? What they intend to burn is the same. In the Quran the name of Jesus Christ is mentioned with great honour 29 times and the name of Moses with dignity 129 times, while the name of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon all of them) is mentioned just 4 times. In addition all the 24 prophets mentioned in the Quran are there in the Bible. Make them aware that they are burning the names of Jesus Christ, Moses and all 24 prophets. The problem is none of them have ever cared to read the Quran. My request to them is to read the Quran’s translation in their own language (easily available free online) and then decide whether burning the Quran is justified or not. I may assure them that they will highly regret in their lives when at a later date they read it. All the allegations of immorality on Mother Mary, Jesus Christ and other prophets mentioned in different books have been very neatly refuted in the Quran. Mother Mary has been given the highest honour amongst all the women of the World. Read it you will be enlightened. Birth of Moses and his marriage has been described in the most respectful manner. Not a single derogatory word has been used in the Quran for any of the prophets those mentioned in the Bible. Why burn the Quran? Burn those books in which baseless allegations have been put on many of the prophets of God. That will be fully justified. Once you read its translation, you will be convinced that it is the best book on earth; every word is of God, the God of Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them all). Not a single word has changed in 1431 years. It is in its original, pristine form preserved in Turkey and in Leningrad. It is totally a wrong concept that Quran was written by the prophet Muhammad (pbuh). How can a person who did not know how to read, can write a book of over 600 pages without any mistake, describing the advance theory of science and space? Moreover the Quran is in the highest literary form of Arabic language. How can Quran be considered man made; a book which describes intricate embryological development of a fetus, space science, complicated oceanography and in over 1400 years no one has found any contradiction or any mistake? Every word of the Quran is the word of God, the same God of Adam, Abraham, Moses and Jesus Christ. How can anyone even think of burning the words of your own God? What is radical about Islam or the teachings of the Quran? Without reading it you call it radical! Bring a single copy of the Bible which is in its original form. What amount of changes is made in the Bible by men to the words of God? Who gave them the authority in the very first place to change the words of God, revise and re-revise the Bible? But still we do not call it radical. We also have appeal to the Muslims of the whole world don’t even think of burning a single copy of the Bible in retaliation because the Bible has the names of our 24 prophets whom all we respect from the core of our hearts. Coming down to the most crucial point of 9/11: The allegation is again on the Muslim, so they decided to burn the Quran, stop building an Islamic Center in Manhattan near Ground Zero. Have a look at the documentaries made on the truth of 9/11. These documentaries are proved without the shadow of doubt there in the scenario of 9/11 in the year 2001, no Muslim was involved. In one of the documentary it said loud and clear that no Muslim is involved in 9/11. Amazing, all the documentaries and films are made by Americans and that too Christians. Go through each and every documentary on U-Tube, you will be amazed, who did it - you have to decide yourself of course not any Muslim? The preparation was done three months before 9/11. If anyone considers these documentaries are not authentic, why can’t they take the producers to the courts and involve FBI to investigate how dare, they can make such movie which has tarnished the image of America all over the world and the whole world had sunk in deep recession shattering the economy of all the countries. What benefit they achieved by doing so? Thousands of Americans were killed and even are being killed today. Trillions of Dollars have burnt in smoke, millions of innocent people were killed and other multimillions suffered. Why don’t these preachers of peace go after them who did it? Why Muslims and why Quran? Please send this article to all your acquaintances, News papers, magazines, put it on the U-Tube, radio stations, television stations and on the Internet. ~~~~~*****~~~~~ Newly added and updated links: ~~~~~*****~~~~~ Sectarianism serves the purpose of enemies of Islam http://www.ezsoftech.com/ Scent of a flower from the school of Imam Sadiq (pbuh) http://www.ezsoftech.com/ |

Balancing Matters of Dunya & Akhirah - Do We Have Time to Work For The Hereafter
As-Salamu Alaykum (peace be upon you), By Umm Hibathain Allah has sent us to this world (the Dunya) for a purpose, and the purpose is nothing but to worship Him and do righteous deeds to seek His pleasure. And the religion He wants us to follow is one of total submission and obedience - and a complete way of life. Allah says: "He Who created death and life to test which of you is best in action. He is the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving." [Noble Quran 67:2] And Allah says: "Oh mankind! Worship your Lord (Allah), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may acquire Taqwa." [Noble Quran 2:21] Islam should be inculcated into every action and deed in our everyday routine, be it at our work, in our business transactions, our family life (with our spouse and kids), our parents, our social life among our friends, community and everything that surrounds us and to matters of our heart. And insha'Allah with this in our mind, all of us will be able to balance our time between the matters of Dunya and matters of the Hereafter. For a believer, all matters of the Dunya are also matters of the Hereafter. He does not keep them separate. He indulges in matters of the Dunya in such a way that will him benefit for him and not bring harm or evil to him in The Hereafter. Allah says in the Quran: "The life of this world is nothing but a play and amusement. The hereafter is better for those who guard against evil. So will you not use your intellect?" [Noble Quran 6:32] A true believer will always, therefore, remember his final destination. He does not forget the Hereafter, even for a second. He will live in this life as though he is a traveler, and he has to earn and prepare for his eternal abode, a luxurious, successful life. Ibn 'Umar narrated that Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Be in this life as if you were a stranger or a traveler on a path." [Sahih Al Bukhari] Imagine a man is travelling by road from a point 'A' to his destination 'B' and he has a prescribed time to reach 'B'. He has his GPS with him to guide him to the right place. He needs to have food on his way. What do you think? Should he stop at a point 'C', which is on the way to 'B', or should he take a completely different out-of-the-way direction and go to a restaurant at point 'D' that might be more fancier and more expensive? Should he compromise on his time at this point, and trade his time just to enjoy more fancy food? And then, he sees something else that he feels he has to check out, and he stops there also, all the while moving farther and farther away from his destination. (And hence, 'D' leads him to 'E' and 'F' and so on to greater mistakes and farther from point B) But the Mercy of Allah is this, if by mistake, he does take to point 'C' or even 'D', he can re-calculate and re-route himself to 'B' again through his GPS. And similar is the believer's true repentance. This is a parable of our life in this world. Our final destination is The Akhirah, and we have time to accumulate Ibadah (worship Allah) and do good deeds only till we die. And we don't even have a known prescribed time for this, unlike the example above! It can be anytime, anywhere. If we are consistent in the remembrance of Allah, we will be prepared when Malak-ul-Mawt approaches, and it is time for us to leave. (May Allah bless us to die in a high state of Iman, Ameen) We should use our provisions that Allah has blessed us with, in a way that will please Him, all the while staying on the right path, without going farther from our road to our final abode, Jannah. Allah says in the Quran: "Verily! It is Allah Who causes the seed grain and the fruit stone to split and sprout. He brings forth the living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth the dead from the living. Such is Allah, then how are you deluded away from the truth." [Noble Quran 6:95] The Quran is like The GPS and more, that keeps guiding us, and we should pay serious heed to it, with strong faith in the instructions and guidelines it provides endlessly. The Quran is perfect in all senses and flawless, and if we stick to it, we will never be led astray with The Mercy and Blessings of Allah. Allah says: "That is the Book in which there is no doubt, guidance for the Muttaqin." [Noble Quran 2:2] If a matter of Dunya that will not benefit us, attracts us from a distance away from the straight path we are on, we should not think that maybe for once, we can move towards it, and then run back to the path we are supposed to be on, as we never know what is in store for us at that point. Maybe we could end up moving further away because of other worldly mirages, and ultimately leave us in darkness and lead to Hell-fire. Shaytan has a way of making our evil thoughts and actions look like "harmless fun" and nothing more. Allah says: "Those are the people who trade the hereafter for the world. The punishment will not be lightened for them nor shall they be helped." [Noble Quran 2:86] Insha'Allah, let's be cautious of ourselves so that we will not be included in this type of people, may Allah save us all. Allah says: "Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world." [Noble Quran 6:70] This does not mean that one cannot have fun in this world. Have fun, but within the boundaries of Islam. And keep it balanced. And now to the question: how do we balance it? I have heard people talking about the comparatively few people who try to live their life as much "Muslim" as they can: Come on, he is too orthodox. One is supposed to balance the Dunya and The Akhirah. Answer: For one, like mentioned above, a true believer tries to make his whole life an Ibadah. And his life can be an Ibadah only if he is obeying His Lord at all times. For example, at his work place, he follows the etiquettes and laws of Islam by being nice to his colleagues, trying to give Dawah when he gets a chance (needn't be through speech, his actions speak too), abstaining from intermingling (talking unnecessarily, coming in contact like shaking hands, patting each other etc.), being sincere to his work not just for worldly gains but out of fear of Allah and most of all, having a Halal job. In his business transactions, he will be fair, stay away from interest and any other kind of dealings that are against the Shari'ah of Islam. Even when he relaxes and has fun, he keeps thanking Allah. Secondly, let's weigh the time we spend to make our life here better and the time we spend to make our Akhirah better, by keeping in mind that the Akhirah is eternal and this world is for such a short span of life. Surely, we spend quite an amount of unavoidable time for the Dunya. How can we then, be satisfied with ourselves for the amount of time we spent only to worship Allah and the little or no time we spend in learning His Deen? (Indeed, He is The Most Merciful that insha'Allah, we will enter Paradise, for the little we do here for our own Akhirah's sake as gratitude for this life he has Blessed us with!) Allah says: "Oh mankind! Have Taqwa of your Lord, and fear a Day when no father can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father. Verily, the promise of Allah is true, let not then this present life deceive you, nor let the chief deceiver deceive you about Allah." [Noble Quran 31:33] Thirdly, let's always stop ourselves and think twice when we feel tempted to think/say, "We have no time", when it comes to doing a good deed or an act or worship. Allah has given each and everyone of us 24 hours a day and 7 days in a week. All men are equal. If the companions of The Prophet (Peace and blessings be upon him) and the rightly guided scholars of the Islamic Era were able to run homes (sometimes more than one) with many kids, run businesses or do some work in order to earn their bread, govern the nation/state, do Dawah and teach Islam to their people, recite the Quran and contemplate on it on a daily basis, participate in battles, travel to seek knowledge of Deen, pray Tahajjud and other extra prayers etc, why cannot we find time then? "O Lord! Give unto us in the world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and guard us from that doom of the Fire" |

Made a mistake during Hajj last year
**Question:***
I performed Hajj last year with my wife, unfortunately we committed a mistake and from then we are worried about it, I hope you will guide me to the right way. The day of sacrifice (10th Thul-Hijjah) we performed Tawaaf-ez-Ziyaarah and due to illness of my wife we delayed Sa'i and returned back to Mina there we stayed till 12th, as soon as we came back to Makkah one of our relatives living in Jeddah took us with them to their home, there we relaxed, and had intercourse after a gap of long time (more than 20 days) when again we returned back to Makkah. One of our companions said that you committed a sin by not doing Sa'i. However, a Mufti told us to do Sa'i now and nothing else is liable, what is your opinion, what should we do now? (we already performed Sa'i after returning back from Jeddah).
**Fatwa:***
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger. Sa'i is one of the pillars of Hajj. It is an obligation on whoever abandons it whether by ignorance or forgetfulness to return and perform it, even after leaving Makkah, and he is still considered in the state of Ihraam and he should abide by its conditions until he performs Sa'i. Sa'i and Tawaaf (circumambulation around the Ka'bah) are the same regarding the restrictions of Ihraam. Al-Buhooti, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: 'Sa'i is a pillar of Hajj, and one could not end the second phase of the state of Ihraam (being free from all its restrictions) unless he performs it.'As regards the sexual intercourse that you had with your wife while not knowing the ruling, then you are not sinful because you did not know the ruling, so this does not invalidate your Hajj according to the Shaafi'ee school and according to one of the narrations of Ahmad, may Allaah have mercy upon him. This opinion is also the preponderant one according to Shaykh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him.Imaam An-Nawawi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: 'If the pilgrim has sexual intercourse with his wife due to not knowing the ruling, forgetfulness, being insane or forced to do it, then this does not invalidate his Hajj and he does not have to offer a sacrifice.’ However, if you had intercourse deliberately and while knowing the ruling then you are obliged to sacrifice for that without any difference of opinion on this. This applies to you if you came to the end of the first phase of the state of Ihraam having thrown the pebbles and shaved your hair. But if you had not finished the first phase of the stated of Ihraam, and committed some of the prohibitions of Ihraam during this period, then there are some details about it. If the restrictions you transgressed pertained to wearing form-fitting clothes, applying perfume or having sexual intercourse; then you are not sinful if you did not know the ruling. But if the violations pertain to cutting hair or nails, then for every prohibition you have to pay a ransom of either observing fast (three days) or giving charity (feeding six poor people) or offering a sacrifice (one sheep). Allaah knows best. **Fatwa answered by: The Fatwa Center at Islamweb***
